In 2002, Technology Review featured an article by Henry Jenkins called Culture Goes Global: Global communication has turned Maori chants-and other indigenous musical forms-into def jams. This article points out that while some people fear that globalization will destroy cultural diversity, resulting in a world ruled by American exports, the world-music scene suggests something else. Take for example teens in the U.S. who have developed more cosmopolitan music tastes because of travel, online chatting, etc. According to Jenkins, when global popular culture enters the marketplace, audiences demand new forms of diversity and performers fuse traditions to create novel forms of expression.

COLLABORATION THROUGH TECHNOLOGY

ICT Enabled Virtual Collaboration through Trust

This site is managed through the Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication. The article posted here focuses on understanding the effect of virtual organizing for achieving a higher level of collaboration in virtual settings. A process that helps promote collaboration between groups in geographically dispersed locations is discussed. The authors suggest that the real challenge for virtual collaboration is trust, which must be guided by shared business principles or visions. Eight propositions are offered based on this analysis. Virtual organizing, as it is presented here, suggests a need for a set of rules and norms that enable and constrain actions to promote a higher level of trust. This will be critical to developing and sustaining virtual collaboration and to ensuring the optimal use of ICT.
